Ranji Trophy 2017-18: Bengal Challenges Gujarat; Karnataka in Command against Mumbai

In the Ranji Trophy 2017-18 one of the quarterfinal fixtures, Karnataka is going from strength to strength as four batsmen struck the fifties to see Vinay Kumar-led side leading by 222 runs in the first innings total over Aditya Tare-led Mumbai.

In Nagpur, Karnataka scored 395 for six 122 overs, before the stumps at day two of the quarterfinal fixture.

For Mumbai, the chief architect with the ball was Shivam Dubey, who bagged a five-wicket haul after conceding 79 runs in 30 overs.

Shivam Malhotra dismissed opener Mayank Agarwal in the morning session on 78 off 104 balls.

The top-order batsman Kaunain Abbas scored 50 off 137 balls, as gloveman CM Gautham scored 79 off 111 balls.

Skipper Vinay is batting on 31 off 100 balls alongside Shreyas Gopal smashed unbeaten 80 off 151 balls.

The 26-year-old middle-order batsman Karun Nair managed just 16 off 42 balls, before being trapped in front of the stumps by Dubey.

Ranji Trophy 2017-18 – Bengal Vs Gujarat:

In another interesting fixture, Bengal started off their inning with the overnight score of 261 for six in 86 overs.

On the second day, Bengal added 93 runs before the Manoj Tiwary-led side was dismissed on 354 in 111.5 overs.

The fast-bowler Ishwar Chaudhary bagged five wickets in 31 overs as he conceded 87 runs.

Chintan Gaja wrapped the innings with three wickets, and Siddharth Desair alongside Piyush Chawla picked a wicket each.

In first innings, Gujarat is struggling at 180 for six in 59 overs.

At one stage, Gujarat was reeling at 17 for two in 7.1 overs when both the openers in the form of Samit Gohel and Priyank Panchal took a long way back to the pavilion.

However, for the third-wicket, skipper Parthiv Patel (47 off 95) alongside Bhargav Merai (67 off 116) forged a 107-run stand for the third wicket.

Boddupali Ami claimed three wickets as Ishan Porel claimed two followed by Ashok Dinda, who removed opener Gohel on nought.

Piyush Chawla is batting on 22 off 44 balls, and Chirag Gandhi faced five to score four.

Gujarat is trailing by 174 runs in Jaipur.

Delhi Vs Madhya Pradesh:

After beginning their innings from the overnight score of 223 for six in 90 overs, Madhya Pradesh added 115 runs on the second day and the side was all out on 338 in 124.1 overs.

Harpreet smashed a fine hundred as he remained unbeaten on 107 off 200 balls.

Manan Sharma was the pick of the bowlers as he managed four wickets in 15.1 over which further saw him conceding 46 runs. Vikas Mishra wrapped the innings with three wickets.

While coming to bat, Delhi lost left-handed opening batsman Gautam Gambhir on six in the very first over of Ishwar Pandey.

However, Kunal Chandela alongside Dhruv Shorey stitched a 145-run stand for the second wicket to keep Madhya Pradesh’s bowlers at bay.

Shorey scored 120-ball 78, as Chandela is batting on 78 off 120 alongside middle-order batsman Nitish Rana (17 off 30).

At stumps on day two in Vijayawada, Delhi was 180 for two in 51 overs, and the side is trailing by 158 runs.

Ranji Trophy 2017-18 – Kerala v Vidarbha:

At stumps, on day two Kerala is trailing by 214 in the first innings against Vidarbha.

Kerala finished the day on 32 for two in seven overs with Rohan Prem batting on five off 12 balls alongside Jalaj Saxena, who scored 13 off 21 balls.

Lalit Yadav and Rajneesh Gurbani claimed a wicket each as both the openers were removed when Kerala’s score was 24 in 3.3 overs.

KC Akshay claimed the five-wicket haul after sending down 31 overs.

For Vidarbha, the top-scorer was wicket-keeper batsman Akshay Wadkar who scored 53 off 147 balls.

Jalal Saxena managed to pick three wickets in 22.3 overs.

Kerala’s opening batsman Mohammed Azharuddin was bowled by Yadav on eight off eight balls, as Sandeep Warrier (0 off two) was cleaned up by Gurbani.
