Rare video of VVS Laxman got viciously angry  over a junior cricketer in a close match

VVS Laxman, the former Indian batsman is known as a calm and composed batsman. He used to pierce the ball through mid-wicket and cover boundary. He has many fans following even among the former cricketer. Recently, former Pakistan cricketer Zaheer Abbas revealed his fascination for VVS Laxman bat. Laxman, who resembles Zaheer Abbas bat to some extent, particularly his wrist drive.

Laxman, who  won many matches from difficult situations with tailenders, got angry over Pragyan Ojha, a rare sight in Laxman’s cricketing career. But at the end, both had the last laugh. You must want to know what happened between them. Before that, I should discuss the match at Mohali in 2010.

India were playing visiting Australia in the first Test of the two-match Border-Gavaskar series. Australia batting first scored a big total 428. Shane Watson scored a hundred while Ricky Ponting contributed 72. But, even after their contribution Australia trapped, in danger zone 257 for 6. However, wicket-keeper Tim Paine scored (92) and Mitchell Johnson (47) built an 82 runs partnership that helped Australia to hefty total 428.

India gave a strong reply to Australia putting 405 on the  board. Sachin Tendulkar scored 98 and Suresh Raina 86 and Virender Sehwag’s 59 played crucial in India’s first innings. India took the control of the match as Australia bundled out for 197. Zaheer Khan and Ishant Sharma rattled Australia taking three wickets each. Two spinners Harbhajan Singh and Pyargan Ojha took remaining four wickets.

The match turned into a thriller. India had a 215 lead to chase down. The chase was thorny. Tendulkar provided some resistance with by scoring 38. Australian bowlers, especially Benjamin William Hilfenhaus and Doug Bollinger wrecked havoc on the India’s, chase in the fourth innings. When Tendulkar was caught out by Michael Hussy off Bollinger, India were already six down for 119 run. A breathtaking moment for Indian fans. Many lost the hope, but, a few kept their belief on VVS Laxman, whom captain MS Dhoni surprisingly sent at no. 9 in the first innings, led the fight being the lone warrior among the hungry wolves, the Australian bowler. VVS  in many occasion frustrated Aussie bowlers in his career,  so this time at Mohali he took the burden of expectations of millions of Indian fans to move India to victory.

VVS came to bat at no. 7. Batted with each. The only assistance he got from Ishant Sharma who made a brave attempt by facing 92 balls and scoring handy 31 run innings before Hilfenhaus trapped him LBW. After Sharma’s departure, India needed only 11 runs but had one wicket in hand and that was wicket of  Pragyan Ojha.

Here comes the moment. Laxman did not want to give strike Ojha, whom Australian bowlers are targeting as Laxman’s wicket was impossible to pick. Laxman battered Aussie bowlers scoring 73 off 79 balls with 12 boundaries. Ojha tried twice to take a single from the none striking end. Laxman  was annoyed as he had foreseen  that he would win the match. But, Ojha was trying to spoil his plan attempting singles where Australian fielder could end the hope. 24 year Ojha faced the wrath of VVS, an unlikely behaviour. Angry Laxman even raised his bat from the striking end towards Ojha, who had not any option other than kept his head down. But, Laxman did it to win the match for India. They reconciled as the plan succeeded. They won the close match for India.
