Afghanistan spin wizard Rashid Khan has revealed the names of India and Pakistan cricketers whom he grew up idolising. A young lad hailing from Afghanistan, Rashid didn’t have anyone to look up to in his own country. He resorted to the legends of his neighbouring countries in India and Pakistan. He grew up to be a sudden hit at the age of 18 — and became an indispensable part of Team Afghanistan.
Rashid Khan has been part of the IPL for three seasons now with the Sunrisers Hyderabad and has been performing exceptionally well. The 21-year-old has 55 scalps to his name at an outstanding economy rate of 6.55.
Rashid Khan names his cricketing idols:
The leg-spinner has named Indian spin legend Anil Kumble and Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi as his idols. Rashid Khan told watching them motivated him and gave him the energy to dream of representing his country one day.
“It motivated me and gave me the energy that one day I will represent my country.” Rashid Khan said on Ravichandra Ashwin’s youtube channel.
Rashid Khan dreams of winning the T20 World Cup with Afghanistan
Undoubtedly, this generation of Afghanistan cricketers has been their best-ever with the likes of Rashid Khan, Mohammad Nabi, Asghar Afghan and others. Rashid says the biggest achievement for the Afghanistan team would be winning the T20 World cup. He says they have the skill and talent and have good prospects in every area they just have to have the belief.
I think the biggest achievement (for Afghanistan) should be, right now, what the team is looking for, what the country is expecting is, to win the T20 World Cup,” said Khan.
“We have all the skills, talent, and we just need to have that belief in ourselves that we can do it. Talent-wise we are so good, we have the spinners, we have the fast bowlers, we have the batting skills as well. But what took us down in that Test (against India) was our experience against big teams, because we didn’t play enough cricket with them.” Khan added.
Rashid Khan will be once again seen in the IPL playing for SRH this season. The IPL 2020 will begin from September 19 till November 10, a total 53-day campaign will see all the eight teams play in UAE.
