Rashid Khan is the premier spinner for the Afghanistan team as well as for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He has dismissed the likes of Virat Kohli, Chris Gayle, AB de Villiers, and other prominent batsmen with his remarkable bowling. But there is the one batsman whom he finds too hard to bowl to.
In conversation with Yuzvendra Chahal on Instagram, Rashid Khan made a surprise pick when asked to name the batsman who is tough to bowl. He named the Indian wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant and explained that he is a very talented batsman.
Rishabh Pant has every shot in his book: Rashid Khan
MS Dhoni‘s replacement in Team India, Rishabh Pant, has failed to score runs even though he has been given enough opportunities. His degrading performance is said to be because of constant pressure and scrutiny to perform like Dhoni.
However, the Afghanistan spinner Rashid said that he had tough times when he faced Pant during age-group level competition. He noted that bowlers, in his team, found themselves helpless in front of Pant’s power-hitting.
“He hit three sixes in a row and in the fourth ball, he mistimed but only to be dropped at short midwicket. Our bowler looked helpless and put his hands on his head, yelling in Pashto, ‘now what do I do get him out?’,” Khan recalled the incident in an Instagram chat with Indian legspinner Yuzvendra Chahal.
Although Rishabh Pant is still to prove himself at the international platform, Rashid said that Pant was tough to bowl because he had every shot in his book.
“He has every shot in the book and is one batsman who is very tough to bowl to. I remember bowling to him at a ground in Kolkata in the U-19 Tri-series,” Rashid said.
Meanwhile, Rashid also talked on multiple topics with the Indian leg-spinner Chahal. He also said that he doesn’t like to bowl at the small ground of M Chinnaswamy Stadium which is a batting paradise.
