The Indian Cricket Board (BCCI) has hinted that Ravi Shastri might continue with the Indian Cricket Team in a capacity of head coach if the Cricket Advisory Committee renews his contract.
Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, and VVS Laxman are in the BCCI’s Cricket Advisory Committee, and they will decide who will be India’s coach.
Shastri was working as team’s director, but BCCI secretary Anurag Thakur said the Team Director post will be scraped and there will only be one post of ‘Head Coach’.
“Ravi Shastri’s contract has ended,” Thakur said. “We are looking at a full-time coach and the decision will be taken by the Cricket Advisory Committee.”
“There won’t be a Team Director and a full-time coach. It will be only one post and even Ravi’s contract can come up for renewal,” he added.
“It will entirely be CAC’s call. But it will be the post of a full-time coach. CAC has been asked to shortlist the names of the possible candidates for the post.”
Shastri has been appointed as Team Director since India’s last tour of England. His tenure extended after coach Duncan Fletcher’s regime expired. But, BCCI has said that it would bring a new full-time coach and would take a decision on Shastri’s future association with the Indian team. Under Shastri,India reached semifinal fo World Cup 2015 and WT20 2016, Virat Kohli’s India have won the Sri Lanka series at Emerald Isle 22 years later.
