If MS Dhoni Has Cracking IPL, He Might Get Chance: Ravi Shastri On Dhoni's Future 1

January has arrived so its time for MS Dhoni to answer questions of his future as he said last year in December to not ask him about his plans till the first month of the new year. Indian head coach Ravi Shastri has given clarity on the future plan of the former Indian captain, repeating his old words that MS Dhoni’s return will more depend on his IPL’s performance.

While talking to CNN News 18, Shastri has cleared that he had conversations with MS Dhoni about his game plan. The head coach has assured that Dhoni’s selection will depend on his form and performance during the upcoming season of Indian Premier League (IPL).

“I have had a conversation with MS and that is between us,” he said. “He has finished his Test career, he may soon end his ODI career. So he will be left with T20, he will definitely play the IPL. One thing I know about Dhoni is that he will not impose himself on the team. But if he has a cracking IPL, well, then…”

“We will have to consider the person’s experience and form. They will bat in the number 5-6 position. If Dhoni plays well in IPL then he does put himself in contention,” Shastri said.

So, there are hopes that MS Dhoni may be in the T20 World Cup 2020 squad.

MS Dhoni’s sabbatical break

MS Dhoni hasn’t played a competitive match after the disappointing semi-final of the World Cup 2019. He took a two-month break but went on to increase it. He joined the Indian army for 15 days and then went on vacations with his family. Everyone expected that he would join the Indian team in the home limited-overs series but he had a different plan.
