India head coach Ravi Shastri might have to undergo the process to be team India’s head coach again as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) might have to re-conduct the appointment process if the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) members, who picked him as head coach, find themselves under conflict of interest issue, a report in IANS suggests.

Yesterday, the three members of CAC were served notice by BCCI’s ethics officer and have been asked to respond by October 10. Shantha Rangaswmy resigned from her post earlier today. Kapil Dev and Anshuman Gaekwad are expected to submit their response soon.

Ravi Shastri Might Be Removed, BCCI Might Have To Reappoint Him As Team India's Head Coach: Report 1

CAC is an honorary committee that does the job to pick the head coach of the Indian cricket team. Since they chose Shastri for a second term as head coach, the appointment might be null and void if the BCCI’s officer finds that the members hold more than one position.

“The appointment of Shastri as the head coach will obviously have to be done once again if the committee members who appointed him are found to have conflict of interest. A new committee will then have to be formed and the whole process has to be re-opened and re-done keeping the newly registered BCCI constitution in mind as the constitution now clearly says that only a CAC can appoint the head coach of the Indian team,” a functionary told IANS.

Apart from the appointment of Shastri, WV Raman’s appointment might also be called null and void. He took over the job as head coach of India’s women’s team in December 2018.

At that time, CAC was an ad-hoc committee but they were again asked to pick the coach of Indian men’s team.

Prior to them, Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman formed the BCCI’s CAC. They all left the committee due to the conflict of interest issue.

As per the rule, the officer will check whether the present CAC members hold more than one position or not. If they hold more than one position in the bord, they would be asked to relinquish one of them.

As per Sanjeev Gupta, MPCA’s member who filed the complaint, Kapil Dev is a commentator, owner of floodlight company and is a member of ICA. Gaekwad owns an academy and is a member of BCCI’s affiliation committee while Rangaswamy is also a member of ICA.

Earlier this week, Rahul Dravid also deposed before ethics officer after being served a conflict of interest notice last month.
