Ravi Shastri Wants Kapil Dev As Bowling Consultant: Reports
Jan 9, 2019 at 4:06 PM
Ravi Shastri, the newly appointed Head Coach of Indian cricket team, has asked for Kapil Dev as the bowling consultant of India, a report in NBT suggests.
The news has come a day after it was reported that he wants Sachin Tendulkar as the batting consultant. Shastri put all his demands forward during his first meet with BCCI officials, after which Bharat Arun was announced as the bowling coach of Indian cricket team. BCCI need to have a talk with both Dev and Tendulkar and hence, their appointments in the post were delayed. (Read Here: Ravi Shastri Wants Sachin Tendulkar As Batting Consultant)
The final Decision on whether to take up the role or not depends on both the former players. Though they will be paid the salary for whatever role they will perform for the betterment of the team. It is to be noted that Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) had already given the batting and bowling consultant role to Rahul Dravid and Zaheer Khan respectively and now Shastri putting up his demands show that he wasn’t taken into confidence at the time of decision making, which has led to this fiasco. Despite Shastri saying that he has had talks with these two players 3-4 times, it is unclear whether if the statement is correct. There is no issue in Shastri asking for anyone in the role but the picture should be clear whether he was asked before the appointment of Zaheer and Dravid or not.
Any development, in this case, will be made in the upcoming days when both Tendulkar and Dev will be delivered the message of Shastri. Though the new Head Coach is open with Rahul Dravid coming in Indian camp on a timely basis. At present, there is no clarity over the role of Dravid and Zaheer and the confusion will continue to loom till the time BCCI comes up with an official word on these two.
