Consistency has been Ravindra Jadeja’s biggest nemesis throughout his career. One day he makes a world class batting lineup look like a bunch of school kids and the very next day he looks nothing more than a bowler who can just roll his arms. The all-rounder has immense potential and his performance in the 2013 Champions Trophy in England is a big evidence.
Time and again he has shown his huge potential with the ball and one such instance happened during India’s tour of England in 2011.
After losing the Test series and T20 series 4-0 and 1-0 respectively, the Indian team was under huge pressure in the third ODI as they were trailing the series 1-0. The Indian batsmen once again failed to perform and could manage only 234 runs in their 50 overs. Ravindra Jadeja was the highest scorer with 78 and he along with Dhoni (69) helped the team to get a respectable total.
England made a flying start to their innings and raced to 86 for the loss of one wicket in only 16 overs. Their opener Craig Kieswetter who was batting on 50 off just 41 balls was looking very dangerous for the visitors. But then Jadeja came and bowled one of his finest overs to bring India into the match.
The first three balls were normal and the batsmen scored a couple of runs but the Gujarat all-rounder started weaving his magic from the fourth delivery. The fourth ball hit Kieswetter’s pad and the Indian fielders appealed in unison only to see the umpire turning down the appeal. The penultimate delivery of the over was even a better delivery. After landing on the middle and off stump, the ball took a huge turn and went straight to Dhoni as the batsman was absolutely clueless and the bowler finally reaped the reward of his fine bowling on the final ball. He bowled one on the middle and off stump and the batsman expecting a turn, tried to play from outside only to see his bails getting dislodged.
Watch the great over:
