Returning the favour: Sri Lanka to host India for Test series next year

Shashi / 20 October 2014

Sri Lanka will now host India for a 3-match Test match series in August 2015. Earlier, Sri Lanka was scheduled to tour India for this series. This has been made clear by SLC secretary Nishantha Ranatunga, who said that BCCI has agreed this  as the Sri Lankan team is coming to tour India , to make up for the void created by the early departure of the West Indies cricket team.

BCCI is yet to confirm this officially but this is well understood that both the boards had a discussion over this before Sri Lankan board agreed to sent their team to India. According to a BCCI functionary, this proposal will be kept near the working committee of the BCCI during their meet at Hyderabad on 21st of this month and this will be left to them to decide.

According to Nishantha , Sri lankan Cricket Board will make around $6-7 million as a result of this tour . He also added that there will be no ODIs or T20s in this tour. The alst time India toured Sri Lanka to play Tests was back in 2010, the same series when the legendary off spinner Muralitharan retired from Test cricket. The last time India hosted Sri lanka for tests was in 2009.

According to the future tour programme, the next series between India and Sri Lanka is in August 2017 when India will again tour Sri Lanka for 3 Tests, 5 ODIs and a T20 International
