‘Ringing Bell’ ceremony to mark the start of Eden Gardens Test!

Till date, ringing the bell before the start of a Test match was a tradition which was followed by Lords cricket ground only. The 9-year-old tradition was performed for the first time when Sir Viv Richards rung the bell in the year 2007, just five minutes before the start of play. Nawab of Pataudi was the second eminent personality to ring that bell followed by Sunil Gavaskar who rung the bell on the third day’s play becoming second Indian to perform that ceremony.

In past, Indian players like Kapil Dev, Sourav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid also had honours of ringing the bell just before the start of play. The same tradition will now be followed at Eden gardens and the Test match between Indian and New Zealand will be the first time when it will be performed as the Cricket association of Bengal has delivered on its promise and has installed a bell before the start of the game.

However, there are speculations regarding the personality who will be chosen to mark the start of this tradition. There will be many eminent personalities that will be present during the second Test match but uncertainties still loom over the fact that who will be given the honours to start this tradition. Will it be Sunil Gavaskar? Or Kapil Dev? Or Sourav Ganguly himself? Sanjay Manjrekar? Ravi Shastri? All these personalities will be present at the ground during the second Test match.

Along with the bell ceremony, the cricket association of Bengal is making quite a few arrangements to mark this historic occasion as 4000 underprivileged children will be called on the first day of the game. The ticket prices have also been slashed so as to attract more and more public.

Surely with these amount of efforts been put in, we may see Eden Gardens hosting the Test match in a successful manner.
