Rishabh Pant has become a regular in Tests outside Asia while Wriddhiman Saha is a subcontinent favourite pick given his tremendous wicketkeeping skills as there’s been a persistent debate raging over the player who would keep between the duo. Going by the trend, with the exception of India’s tour of New Zealand last year, Rishabh Pant is preferred outside Asia.
While the debate between superior batting and wicketkeeping takes the rounds, the left-handed southpaw has yet again scored remarkable innings in Australia. The 23-year-old Indian wicketkeeper fell just short by 3 runs of his 3rd Test hundred, he set some records in Australia that might have just guaranteed a position for the next tour.

Rishabh Pant Goes Past Syed Kirmani With 512 Runs In Australia
The left-hander, who during his 36 in the previous innings of the Sydney Test, reached 400 Test runs in Australia on Saturday. On Monday, he went past former India batsman Syed Kirmani’s record for holding most Test runs among Asian wicketkeepers in Australia. While the former Indian wicketkeeper had 471 runs down under, after scoring 97, Rishabh Pant’s tally in Australia’s stands at 512 runs at an average of 56.88.

Among Indian wicketkeepers with most runs in the 4th innings of a Test match, the left-handed southpaw has his name appear twice at the top of the list. His 97 in Day 5 of the ongoing Sydney Test is second best to his 114 at The Oval, against England, in 2018. MS Dhoni’s 76 not out against England at Lord’s in 2007 and Parthiv Patel’s unbeaten 67 against England at home in 2016 appear next in the list.
Rishabh Pant Scored 10 Consecutive Innings Of 25 Or More Runs In Australia
After scoring 36 on Day 3 of the Sydney Test, Rishabh Pant scored a unique record of scoring 25 or more in 9 consecutive Test innings in Australia, going past England’s Wally Hammond, India’s Rusi Surti, and former West Indies captain Vivian Richards.

With scores of 25, 28, 36, 30, 39, 33, 159*, 29, 36 and 97, Rishabh Pant now has 10 consecutive innings of at least 25 runs down under. The 23-year-old also completed 400 runs in Test cricket in Australia averaging over 50. Rishabh Pant scored 350 runs in 7 innings averaging 58.33 playing all 4 Tests in India’s victorious campaign down under in the 2018-19 series.
