Rishabh Pant Breaks MS Dhoni Record During 3rd T20I Facing West Indies
Within a few matches, the young Rishabh Pant has broken a massive record of Mahendra Singh Dhoni in the shorter format of the game. The flamboyant batsman has registered the highest score by a designated keeper for the Indian National Cricket Team during the final T20I against West Indies.
After World Cup 2019, the flamboyant gloveman was then picked for India’s tour of the Windies, as the MSK Prasad-led selection committee termed Pant as the number one option for the position of wicket-keeper across formats.
Rishabh Pant registers the highest score for Indian wicketkeeper:
The three-match T20I series didn’t start as planned for Pant. He was dismissed for 0 and four in the first two matches respectively. However, the youngster bounced back with an unbeaten 65 in the third and final match of the series.
Now, Rishabh Pant broke the Indian record for the highest score by an Indian wicketkeeper in T20Is. It was when he hit a match-winning 65 for the team in the 3rd T20I against West Indies in Guyana on Tuesday.
As a result of the partnership, India found themselves at home. They registered a comfortable seven-wicket win to clean sweep the series 3-0.
Rishabh Pant went past MS Dhoni who held the record when he had hit 56 vs England in Bengaluru in 2017. Dhoni’s 52 against South Africa in Centurion is now third on the list of highest scores by Indian wicket-keeper-batsman in T20I cricket.
Pant, who will be playing all three formats in West Indies in the absence of MS Dhoni, stitched a 106-run stand with Virat Kohli. The duo helped India complete a successful chase of 147 against the West Indies at the Providence Stadium.
Interestingly, Pant’s previous highest score in T20Is was 58, which came against the same opposition in 2018. However, during that game, it was MS Dhoni, who kept the wickets.
