ToggleFormer Indian batsman and cricket analyst, Aakash Chopra has opened up on Rishabh Pant’s position in the Indian team. Chopra has stated that Pant might have to wait as long as IPL 2021 to find a place back in the Indian team.
Rishabh Pant was excluded from the Indian limited-overs team and although he was included in the Test side but couldn’t find a place for himself in the first unofficial Test match against Australia A.
Aakash Chopra Highlights Rishabh Pant’s Position In The Indian Team
“It is a tough question. Rishabh Pant is standing last in the queue and at the bottom of the list of Indian wicket-keepers at the moment,” Aakash Chopra said.
The renowned commentator observed that Rishabh Pant could have been fielded as the sixth batsman in the first warm-up match against Australia A but it did not happen.
“The Indian team had one option, when we had the India A vs Australia A match, they could have played six batsmen instead of five. You could have got Wriddhiman Saha to keep wickets but play Rishabh for sure,” Chopra further stated.
Rishabh Pant Has Gone To Australia As A Tourist: Aakash Chopra
Aakash Chopra pointed out that four bowlers should have been able to handle the burden in a three-day encounter.
“Because if they had played him, there would have been only four bowlers but it was only a three-day match and they would not have had to bowl much, at least they would been able to see both of them bat,” Chopra further stated.
The Indian wicketkeeping conundrum has been lasting ever since MS Dhoni has been absent from the Indian team after the 2019 World Cup and a lot of wicketkeeper-batsman have been tried ever since.
