Senior Indian batsman Rohit Sharma, who is one of the most prolific run-scorers in white-ball limited-overs cricket, was finally included for the third Test of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar series against Australia.
Rohit Sharma had earlier missed out on the first two matches due to quarantine rules in Australia and for flying late to Australia as he was undergoing rehabilitation at NCA.
Rohit Sharma Became First Batsman To Complete 100 International Sixes Against Australia
A sweet timer of the ball, the Mumbai born achieved a rare milestone very early in his innings as he dispatched Australian off-spinner Nathan Lyon for a six over long-off. With the shot, he became the first batsman in world cricket to complete 100 international sixes against Australia.
While spinner Nathan Lyon was expected to play a big role in India’s first innings, he didn’t let the bowler settle down and shimmied down the track early in Nathan Lyon’s spell to hit him for a maximum.
Rohit Sharma, however, could not continue for long and was dismissed by Australian pacer Josh Hazlewood in the 27th over of India’s innings for 26.
Well, after surviving a close call against Nathan Lyon, he hit a ball straight towards Josh Hazlewood who held on to a good catch during his follow-through.
He added a valuable 70-run stand for the opening wicket with Shubman Gill who was also back in the pavilion after scoring his maiden international half-century.
Rohit Sharma Hit His 424th Six The Highest Ever For India
He has 63 sixes against Australia in ODI which is the most by any player against the five-time world champions. With that six, he also hit his 424th six and this already cemented his reputation of him as the Indian batsman with the highest number of sixes ever hit in cricket.
He was included in the side after he missed out on the first two Tests for undergoing isolation period. He also replaced Cheteshwar Pujara as the Test’s vice-captain as the latter was given the role temporarily.
Rohit Sharma has hit 55 sixes in Tests, 126 sixes in T20Is and 244 sixes in ODIs against all teams.
