The 9th edition of the Indian Premier League has already seen one of its finalists decided after RCB’s victory over the Gujarat Lions on Tuesday.

The Lions, along with KKR and SRH will not fight for the other spot in the final but spare a though for the other 4 franchises that were knocked out at the end of the group stage.

The Pune and Punjab outfits had a disastrous tournament but the Mumbai Indians and the Delhi Daredevils will feel unlucky to have missed out on a place in the qualifiers by just 2 points.

The holders of the Premier League title, Mumbai Indians finished the season at the 6th place in the points table and its has been a campaign to forget for many of the players.

However, Rohit Sharma, the skipper of the side and Mitchell McClenaghan were two players who were outstanding for the side throughout the season.

The Indian international and the skipper of the MI side took it to social media to apologize to his team’s fan base for the early exit from the tournament.

He posted a picture on social media site Instagram and wrote, ““It’s not a team it’s a family, extremely sad that we couldn’t qualify for the playoffs. But not one person in that team was short of efforts we gave everything we had. Thank you each one of you for coming out and supporting the team we will be back stronger next year. @mumbaiindians.”

He promised the fans that they will hit back strongly next year and thanked them for their support over the two months.

The official Twitter handle of the franchise also tweeted a picture thanking all the fans of the club who continue supporting them even in times of failure.

Last season, Lasith Malinga and Lendl Simmons were two outstanding players in the tournament but this season, MI missed the services of both the players and were left to rue their missed opportunities come the end of group stage.

However, with the amount of quality in the squad, the Mumbai Indians will surely come back into the next season of the IPL as a stronger outfit.
