India’s U-19 team has a big task for next year as they will compete with other teams in the ICC U-19 World Cup 2020 in South Africa. The experienced Rohit Sharma has faith in the youngsters that they will bring back the trophy to the home.
The Uttar Pradesh player Priyam Garg will lead the U-19 team which has talented players like Yashasvi Jaiswal, Dhruvchand Jurel and Kartik Tyagi among others. India U-19 team has won the title four times and two times finished as the runner-up. Under the captaincy of Mohammed Kaif, Virat Kohli, Unmukt Chand, and Prithvi Shaw the team won the title in 2000, 2008, 2012 and 2018 respectively.
Rohit Sharma has faith in the talents of the youngsters and the support they are getting from the coaching staff. He wished the defending champions would bring the cup back home.
“Our team looks very strong, as always. We won the last time. I wouldn’t say that we will win this year as well. I am sure about one thing — they are going to play really hard. They have got great coaching staff. Of course, it’s a big platform, and in big platforms, the India team generally tends to do well. I hope they bring the Cup back home,” Rohit Sharma said as per PTI.
Rohit Sharma wants the youngster to play fearlessly
He has also given advice to the young squad to play fearlessly and follow their game. He wants them to become more responsible for their performance. He wants to back the players, who are confident with their skills to hit the ball over the fielder. Rohit Sharma stressed the fact that scoring runs is important irrespective of how quick or slow you score the runs.
“There is nothing harm in playing big shots, trying to play a flamboyant cover drive. When we were growing up and used to play shots in the air, we were taken out of the nets, which was not right because eventually, you want the results,” said Rohit.
“I would encourage that to play shots if they want to, but at the same time, they need to understand that they need to produce results, that’s the game. You score 100 off 50 balls or 200 balls; it doesn’t matter; it still is a hundred.
“I mean if the guy is confident in his skills, I would back that skill. There should not be any restriction on how these young players want to bat. They should be allowed to bat freely; that’s how they will produce results.”
