The national selectors have overlooked Team India opener in the limited formats, Rohit Sharma for the upcoming India A series against Australia A.
Meanwhile, Australia A plays two four-day Tests against India A commencing on September 2 at Vishakapatnam. The selectors have named a strong squad led by Shreyas Iyer for the clash against Australia.
However, the selectors have ignored the Mumbai batsman, Rohit Sharma despite being in good form. Sharma had a memorable debut in Test cricket in 2013 when he slammed two consecutive hundreds in his first two innings. Five years since then, the 31-year-old batsman’s journey in Test cricket has only seen a downward slide most sixes in odi by a team
Furthermore, the selectors also ignored Rohit for the two-game series that India ‘A’ played against South Africa ‘A’ at home recently. Sharma is not even in any Duleep Trophy squad either.
However, Rohit Sharma last featured in the Test series against South Africa earlier this year. He was given the nod ahead of vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane in the first two Tests. But, the move backlashed as Sharma failed to score even a fifty in four innings that he played.
Subsequently, he was out for the third Test and also missed one-off Test against debutantes Afghanistan at home in June.
Meanwhile, with the selectors inclined towards youngsters, it looks gloomy for Rohit Sharma. Sharma has played 25 Tests, scoring 1,479 runs at an average of 39.97 including three hundred. His highest score of 177 came in his debut match against the Windies in Kolkata on debut rohit sharma runs in ipl 2017
