India skipper Rohit Sharma is currently down with Covid-19 and is in a race against time to be fit for the upcoming rescheduled Test against England.
Team India’s preparations for the upcoming Test against England were dealt a huge blow last week when their talismanic skipper Rohit Sharma was tested positive for Covid-19. The batting star had taken a Rapid Antigen Test on Saturday and was tested positive.
On Monday, India added Mayank Agarwal to the squad as a backup opener as Rohit’s participation in the game remained doubtful. However, it looks like the skipper would recover in time for the crucial clash.
Rohit Sharma provides update:
The BCCI is yet to give an update on Rohit Sharma’s availability for the upcoming clash. Several media reports have suggested that the board and the team-management wanted to take wait-and-watch approach with the star batsman.
With less than 4 days remaining before the Test gets underway on Friday (July 1), there are huge doubts over Rohit’s participation in the game. The batsman, however, has provided a huge update and has seemingly conveyed that he would be fit for the Test.
On Monday (June 27), Rohit took to Instagram to give the update to his fans. He posted a picture of himself from his hotel room on Instagram story. In the photo, a smiling Rohit could be seen showing thumps up. Through the post, Rohit is likely to convey that he would recover in time for the match.
India would be desperate to have Rohit fit for the clash. He was one of India’s performer during the first four Tests last year. In 4 Tests, he had smashed 368 runs at an average of 52.27 including a hundred at The Oval. The upcoming Test would be also his first overseas Test as a skipper.
Rohit will have a chance to lead India to a memorable series win in England. The visitors are leading the series 2-1 and need just a draw in the upcoming clash to clinch a first Test series win in England since 2007.
