The former Australian captain, Ian Chappell has said recently that the Indian batsman, Rohit Sharma is wasting enormous talent by taking things too lightly. He also added that the batsman is ‘half asleep and in the nets’ while he plays in a match.
Ian Chappell also pointed it is quite annoying that a player of such class is wasting huge amount of his talent. He also said that Rohit gets out so softly all the time. Chappell also mentioned about an important fact that Rohit always wants things to look like it is pretty much easy but actually it is not that easy. Had it been that easy, a lot more people would have been playing test cricket now.
In all the four innings so far, Rohit Sharma failed to put up a good effort and failed all the times. Due to his poor performances, the lower middle order of the Indian line up looked to lack proper strength to counter the Australian bowling.
Also despite performing rather poorly in the first two tests, it is quite sort of unlikely that the selectors will exclude him from the playing XI for the remainder of the series and it is a fact that perhaps with a little more focus, Rohit can single-handedly turn things around for the team.
In the first two tests, Rohit averaged 20.25 and he managed to score a total of 81 runs in all the four innings where he batted. He was also given plenty of chances and came in at situations when things were not much in the pressure. But he failed to make use of the opportunities and was dismissed pretty early.
In the on-going test series, Australia has won each of the two tests by a margin of 48 runs and 4 wickets respectively. They are thus now enjoying the lead of 2-0 in the series. India has to win each of the remaining two tests to square the series.
The third Test begins at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) from the Boxing Day.
