Rotation Policy Should Continue as it Keeps the Bowlers Fresh – Bharat Arun

It is the second running year when team India is playing a mega home season and the team is all set to be busy even after the end of it, as the Virat Kohli-led team will fly to South Africa, just four days after the end of the ongoing series against Sri Lanka.

Players hardly get any time to take rest, especially considering the fixtures which India have played and which are lined-up for the team for next one year. It is very important to manage workload, especially for the fast bowlers, who are prone to injuries.
Mohammed Shami played World Cup 2015 with an injury, and it took him a year to return to the international team again. He travelled to Australia in 2016 but returned home before the start of the series.
It was a big lesson for the team management, and now, we see players, especially the fast bowlers getting ample rest.
One of the policies which the team has opted to give rest to players is the rotation policy, which has come handy and the team is set to continue it. Bharat Arun, the bowling coach of Indian cricket team, has said the team management would continue to use it, as it keeps the bowlers fresh,
“Yes, it should continue as it has worked very well for us as it keeps the bowlers fresh. It’s not easy to play all forms of the game and remain fresh throughout. It gives specialist bowlers a chance to perform in each format and this way, we also have a great pool of bowlers to choose from and they could fill in for the gap anytime we want them to,” he told BCCI.TV.

Surely, the current team management has a long-term plan for team India but there still remains a few questions. First, whether they would fly an inexperienced bowling line-up to South Africa for the limited-overs series? Jasprit Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar Kumar surely need one of Umesh Yadav or Shami there and absence of these two can create a problem for the team.
Same is the case with the spin department. Will the team management ignore the experience of R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja again and send inexperienced Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal for the limited overs series?
The question will be answered in time to come but looking at the history, team India is likely to bring back experience for inexperience. For that though, they have to manage the workload of the players and we might see many of the current members of Indian cricket team getting a rest for the limited-overs series against Sri Lanka.
