Cricket has seen greats like Sachin Tendulkar, Ricky Ponting, Brian Lara, Viv Richards and others play ODI cricket. In present time, Virat Kohli, Babar Azam and Rohit Sharma are among best cricketers in 50-over cricket but surprisingly, it’s Netherlands’ Ryan ten Doeschate who owns the record of best average in ODI cricket.

The right-handed batsman, who is also the only Netherlands player to play in IPL, played 33 ODIs in which he batted for 32 times for his 1541 runs at an average of 67.00, highest in the history of ODI cricket.
Upon seeing the record on social media, Ryan looked a bit confused and apologised to those succeeding him in the list.
Apologies to all involved.

Kohli, who is regarded as the best modern-day batsman in this format, follows Ryan on the list.
The Indian skipper has scored 11520 runs at an average of 60.31. Looking at his form in white-ball cricket, Kohli can overtake Ryan’s record but he has a tough road and will have to be consistent for the next 5-6 years.
Known as a master of chases, Kohli has an average of 68.50 in chases. Last year, he became quickest batsman in the history to score 10000 runs in this format – he achieved the milestone in 205 innings.
Following Ryan and Kohli on the list is Babar, who is often compared to the Indian captain. The former Pakistan U-19 captain has scored 3359 runs from 72 innings at an average of 54.17. He also has the record of scoring three back to back centuries in ODIs.

Babar, who made his debut in 2015, has become the backbone of Pakistan’s middle-order but still has a long way to go if compared to Kohli. His numbers in the upcoming years will determine whether he will be able to achieve the legendary status or not.
His rise in international cricket has him become the vice-captain of Pakistan and he is expected to take over as their captain soon
