SA vs BAN 2017: Bangladesh Cricket Board to Investigate Three Players for Breaking Team Protocol

At a time when Bangladesh players are facing the flak from all around for their horror show in the ongoing tour of South Africa, they are set to find themselves in further hot water.  As Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), on Tuesday (October 24), announced that it would investigate and take appropriate action against three cricketers for breaking team’s protocol.

Hours after Mashrafe Mortaza & Co. suffered a humiliating 200-run defeat in the third and final One-Day International on Sunday (October 22), three players – Nasir Hossain, Taskin Ahmed and Shafiul Islam went to a casino in East London and returned to the team hotel later than the time decided by the team management.

BCB president Nazmul Hasan, post submitting the nomination papers for the upcoming BCB election, confirmed that the board would look into the matter and would take the appropriate action.

“We will definitely investigate the matter and [take] appropriate action,” Nazmul said. “Let us get the report from the team management after the tour. If it was a matter of one player, we could have taken a drastic step but as there are three cricketers involved and we need some time.”

The BCB head also revealed the timings of the players’ arrival before saying that the trio did not gamble at the casino.

“They returned at 10:34 pm, whereas, everyone is expected to go back to their room by 10. It was a mistake, and we will look into it, but from what I learnt they did not gamble and only had some food at the place,” Nazmul said.

Visiting a casino just three hours after the massive loss was definitely the worst thing the players could have done and the board is now in no mood to let them get away with it. Nothing has gone right for Bangladesh on tour. The Asian country had arrived in South Africa with full of hope, having churned out some brilliant performances in the last couple of years.
