Batting legend Sachin Tendulkar has finally reacted to his son’s failure to break into Mumbai Indians’ playing eleven in the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
For the second season in a row, Arjun finished the IPL campaign with playing a single game for the five-time champions. Earlier this year, the left-arm fast-bowler was bought by Mumbai Indians for Rs 30 lakh during the accelerated part of the IPL mega auction.
Mumbai, however, did not hand Arjun his debut cap despite their disastrous season in the tournament. The Rohit Sharma-led side lost their first 8 games of IPL 2022 and were the first team to be eliminated this season.
At that time, it looked like Arjun might get a chance to showcase his skills to the world. However, Mumbai had some other plans as they kept Arjun in the dug out throughout the season.
Talking about Mumbai’s season, they finished the competition at the bottom of the points table. They could manage to win only 4 of their 14 league games. During the disastrous campaign, they also became the first team in the history of the IPL to lose their first seven and then eight league games.
Sachin Tendulkar’s reaction:
Sachin Tendulkar was recently asked about Arjun Tendulkar’s non-selection in Mumbai’s playing XI during IPL 2022 and the former cricketer answered it without any hesitation. Tendulkar was answering fans’ question for his YouTube channel when he was asked about his son.
The fans asked the batting maestro – ‘Would you have liked Arjun to play this year?’ and ‘what was your take in him not playing through the entire season’.
In reply, Tendulkar said: “This question is a bit different. What I am thinking or feeling is not important. The season is already over.”
Tendulkar, who was Mumbai’s mentor this season, further said that he never involves himself in selection and leave it on the team management, saying: “My conversation with Arjun has always been that the path is going to be challenging, it is going to be difficult. You started playing cricket because you are in love with cricket, continue to do so. Continue to work hard and results will follow.
“I don’t get involved in the selection process I leave that part to the management only,” added Tendulkar.
