Sachin Tendulkar Leads Birthday Wishes For ‘Superman’ Mohammad Kaif
Dec 1, 2017 at 11:17 PM
Messages poured in from all quarters, as former India batsman Mohammad Kaif turned 37 on Friday (November 1). His agile fielding and ability to come up with important knocks every now and then made Kaif were one of the most popular figures in Indian cricket during the early 2000s.
Kaif came into limelight when he led India Under-19 to the Youth World Cup of title in 2000 and was fast-tracked into the senior team. He earned his maiden Test cap against South Africa when he was only 20 but had failed to live up to the expectations.
He was, however, soon recalled to the ODI side in 2001-2002 home season and made the chances count this time. However, his most memorable moment came during the 2002 NatWest series in England when his unbeaten 87 helped India to chase down an imposing 326 to win the final. The effort was soon followed by a magnificent century against Zimbabwe in the ICC Champions Trophy.
Kaif also made a name for himself with his exceptional fielding, which more or less helped him to retain his place in the team despite being inconsistent with the bat. Kaif never managed to reach the pinnacle with his batting but he managed to carve a special place in the fans’ heart with his stellar fielding.
Overall, he represented India in 125 ODIs, scoring 2,753 runs at an average of 32.01 with the help of two centuries and 17 fifties. He also played 13 Tests, scoring just 324 runs at an average of 32.84, including one hundred and three half-centuries. Kaif is currently plying his trade for Chhattisgarh in domestic cricket.
Meanwhile, Kaif was also a popular figure in the dressing room and the way his former teammates wished him on Twitter, it is very much evident.
