Former Indian opener Gautam Gambhir believes prodigy wicket-keeper batsman Sanju Samson is throwing some serious challenges to Rishabh Pant. The Kerala right-hander had scored a fine knock of 91 runs from 48 balls in the fifth unofficial One Day International against South Africa A. Thus, the right-hander was awarded the Man of the match.

Sanju Samson is a sweet timer of the ball however his domestic record hasn’t been impressive. The right-hander has scored 1871 runs in 80 List A matches at a paltry average of 27.92. Hence, the talented batsman needs to be more consistent to get into contention for the national side.
Sanju Samson has loads of talent.
On the other hand, Rishabh Pant has grabbed his opportunities with both hands. The southpaw batsman was able to score centuries in England and Australia to cement his place in the team. Furthermore, as MS Dhoni is in the fag end of his career, it is expected that Pant will get a longer run for the team.
The think tank has backed the Delhi wicket-keeper batsman to deliver the goods. However, Pant hasn’t made the most of his opportunities in the white-ball format. The left-hander still needs to work on his temperament.
Meanwhile, Gautam Gambhir believes Sanju Samson can give a tough challenge to Rishabh Pant. Samson needs to be more consistent at the domestic level to get his chances.
“Rishabh Pant is always exciting but he has to watch his back as my favorite Sanju Samson is throwing some serious challenges at him,” Gambhir wrote in his column for Times of India.
Sanju Samson has also impressed while playing in the Indian Premier League for Rajasthan Royals. On the other hand, Rishabh Pant has had a good start to his international career and he would like to continue his good show.
India will face South Africa in the first T20I at Dharamshala today.
