ICC World Cup 2019: Sarfaraz Ahmed Confident On Pakistan Fans Not Booing Steven Smith, David Warner
Pakistan captain Sarfaraz Ahmed is confident on Pakistan cricket fans on not booing Steven Smith, David Warner during their game against Australia. Both Pakistan and Australia are set to face in an important match at Taunton on Wednesday.
Both David Warner and Steven Smith are facing the wrath of English fans. The duo recently came back after serving 12 month ban from international cricket. Both of them were in impressive form in the ongoing world cup.
But Sarfaraz feels that Pakistan fans will love to support the game of cricket and all cricketers.
“I don’t think Pakistani people will do that,” Sarfaraz told reporters on Tuesday. “Pakistani people love cricket, they love to support and they love the players.”
Steven Smith had taken stick during Australia’s game against India. The Indian contingent in the stadium called Steven Smith “cheater” and the chants came to the notice of Virat Kohli. The Indian skipper quickly turned towards the stand and asked Indian fans to applaud the former Australian captain.
Australia recently thumped Pakistan to a 5-0 ODI series win.
Meanwhile, Australia had fond memories playing against Pakistan recently. The defending champions won the bilateral series comfortably by 5-0 margin. But Pakistan also rested six key players keeping world cup in mind.
However, Pakistan captain Sarfaraz brushes past records off. He thinks all that matters is the match on Wednesday.
“I think that thing is gone, it’s past,” said Sarfaraz Ahmed.
“We’re not thinking about that. Actually we are thinking about tomorrow’s game. So our morale is very high and we will do our best.”
Rain has been playing spoil sport in the ongoing mega event. The showers ensured that three games were abandoned so far, while had affect on few other games as well. Pakistan themselves could not play their last game against Sri Lanka.
Both Sri Lanka and Pakistan were awarded one point each after the match was called off without a ball being bowled. With rain predicted for Wednesday at Taunton, Sarfaraz said the team would be ready for a shorter game if weather interrupts.
“Firstly, we can’t control the weather. It’s same for both teams. But if the match is short, definitely the planning is a change one,” he said.
Pakistan are one of the most dangerous sides in this world cup. After being taught a cricketing lesson by West Indies, Pakistan shocked hosts England last week. However, their last game was cancelled due to rain. But the Green team will be hoping to replicate an inspiring performance against Australia on Wednesday.
