After the disappointing performances for the Pakistan team in the T20I series against Sri Lanka, Sarfaraz Ahmed has paid for it. Sarfaraz Ahmed has been dropped from the captaincy position in Test and T20I cricket. Babar Azam will head the team in T20I till the T20 World Cup 2020. Top-order batsman Azhar Ali will lead the Test team in the 2019-21 ICC World Test Championship.
Azhar Ali has better performance in Test cricket. In 2010, he made debut in the Test team and since then, he has played 73 Test matches and scored 5669 runs. His highest score is 302 not out against West Indies. Azhar has an outstanding Test record in Australia as his highest score is 205* during 2016 Melbourne Test.

The Pakistan team’s next assignment is Australia tour where the team will play three T20Is and two Test matches. Good performance will be accepted from Azhar as captain as well as a batsman. He feels obliged to get the opportunity and wants to get the team to top in the ICC World Test Championship.

He praised Sarfaraz’s performance as captain and said Sarfaraz had a big hand in transforming the players. Azhar claimed that he would also follow the footsteps of Sarfaraz and will support the young talent.

The new Pakistan Test captain wants to improve their image
Azhar Ali will not only target to win the matches but also provide equal opportunities to the players. He opines that he will work to enhance the image of the team as well as the country.
He said, “I am not only targeting wins but also aim to provide opportunities to players to grow in stature and express themselves so that Pakistan cricket can resume its journey to the top. I have always played my cricket the hard way but fairly, and will ensure I continue to uphold the spirit of cricket and enhance the image of the team and the country.”
