Moin Khan Shocked On Sarfaraz’s Removal From Captaincy

The news of removing Sarfaraz Ahmed from Test and T20I captaincy post has shocked many. Babar Azam will lead the team in the shortest format till next year T20 World Cup which will be played in Australia. Azhar Ali will lead the Test team.

Under Sarfaraz’s captaincy, Pakistan was most successful in the T20I format and is No.1 in the T20 format. The team has won 29 T20I matches out of 379 under Sarfaraz. He led Pakistan to win the ICC Champions Trophy in 2017. Former Pakistan cricketer Moin Khan is disappointed with the decision to remove Sarfaraz Ahmed from T20I leadership. He opined that because of a few poor performance, you cannot remove anyone from the post.

“Misbah and Waqar (Younis) never liked Sarfaraz. I am shocked that the PCB has removed Sarfaraz from captaincy in T20I cricket. He has led Pakistan to 11 consecutive T20I series’ win and you can’t remove him due to few poor performances,” Moin Khan was quoted as saying by ARY News.

Moin Khan takes a dig on Misbah-ul-Haq after Sarfaraz Ahmed’s removal

The newly appointed head coach Misbah-ul-Haq is also the chief selector of Pakistan. There were questions that former Pakistan captain should not be handed over two big responsibilities. Moin Khan said that Misbah should not have been given all the powers as it will not help the team to grow.

“I think making a single person too powerful won’t work for Pakistan’s cricket,” he warned.

After the removal of Mickey Arthur from the head coach, Misbah was selected for the responsibility. Pakistan Captain Sarfaraz at that time was surrounded by questions for his poor captaincy in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. Misbah trusted Sarfaraz and handed him the team to lead in the Sri Lanka series in the home ground.

Sarfaraz disappointed everyone in the home ground as they lost the T20I series. It has proved expensive to him and has been sacked by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
