Old is Gold, a famous proverb used to mark that the original thing/person/way is better than the new ones. Recently, the selection of Ashish Nehra in the T20 squad for the tour of Australia was something that shocked all cricketing fans.

Congratulations (and criticisms, obviously!) started coming in from around the globe. The most special one being of Nehra’s fellow teammate, when they used to share the dressing room together, Virender Sehwag. Recently retired veteran Sehwag took it to Twitter to congratulate his teammate. Sehwag has been very active on the 140-character social networking platform lately and has publicly congratulated him by saying that “Old is Gold”, referring to the famous proverb. He seemed to be very happy with his former teammate’s return to the national team after a 4-year long break.

Sehwag congratulated Ashish Nehra by saying –

The left-arm pacer’s last appearance with the Indian jersey was way back in 2011. He played the Semi-final match against Pakistan where he suffered an injury on his hand but helped India secure a victory to advance to the finals and hence, win the tournament after 28 years. Not being in the national circuit until now, he was consistent with his performances in the cash-rich IPL. Picked up by the controversy-hit and terminated Chennai Super Kings, he had been a consistent performer while dawning the yellow jersey. With the franchise getting terminated for 2 years, Nehra was not picked in the IPL Draft and would be looking to get picked by any of the two new franchises – Pune or Rajkot in the IPL Auction in February, 2016.

He has not been a regular member in the domestic circuit as well as Nehra has made just one appearance in his domestic team of Delhi in 2015. The last match saw Nehra procuring just 1 wicket in 9 overs by conceding only 35 runs against Maharashtra.

While many may not understand the logic behind Nehra’s selection considering his not-so-great performances in IPL and under-attendance issue in domestic teams, one like Sehwag definitely knows how to forget all that and concentrate on the most important factor- being selected and being happy about it.
