Saurav Ganguly, one of the best left-hand batsmen to ever play the game and one of the greatest skipper Indian cricket has ever seen, was born on this very day, way back in 1972.
Now 44, Dada is the honorable President of the CAB and President of the Editorial Board with Wisden India and is still providing his loyal services to cricket in the nation,
Over the years, the former Indian skipper gave some of the greatest memories to an Indian fan and helped the Indian cricket team during the turn of the century as he instilled a new confidence and belief in the squad and had them play an aggressive brand of cricket.
Cricketers like Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir shot to fame under the 44-year old and they owe him a part of their international career.
So it comes as no surprise that the right-handed Sehwag was quick to wish Dada on his birthday.
Sehwag, who is now retired from all forms of international cricket, has been one of the most active celebrities on Twitter, the social media website.
He has over the last couple of years made his voice heard through the website and has also entertained his fan base with some hilarious tweet.
He yesterday took time to wish India’s ODI skipper MS Dhoni a happy birthday by proposing to call his birthday ‘the national helicopter day’ with a funny tweet on the website.
Here is that tweet:
And he took time out for his former team-mate Saurav Ganguly to wish him on his birthday and on his way recollected one of the best moments of the former Indian skipper.
Ganguly, whose most iconic image came when he decided to take his shirt off and wave it at Lords after a nerve-tingling victory over the hosts in the Natwest series back in 2002.
Sehwag was also a part of that victory as Dada lost it after India won as he started to wave his shirt to the entire team as soon as India reached the target.
The “Nawab of Najafgarh”, as Sehwag is known as fondly, was quick to remind everyone of this incident as he wished Ganguly on his birthday.
He wrote on Twitter:
“HappyBirthdayDada @SGanguly99. May you keep on helping India wave our flag high, just like u waved ur shirt at Lords.”
Here is the tweet:
Sehwag who has around 6 million fans on the social website got immediate responses from his followers as they joined him to wish Dada on his 44th Birthday.
