Former Pakistan Cricket Team skipper Shahid Afridi has joined the Euro T20 Slam as their icon player. Meanwhile, South Africa all-rounder JP Duminy and veteran spinner Imran Tahir will be among the six marquee cricketers. The tournament will commence from August 30 and will run until September 22. Ireland, Scotland and Netherlands will host all the games.
Afridi to play in Euro T20 Slam
Shahid Afridi will join the likes of Shane Watson from Australia, Brendon McCullum from New Zealand and Rashid Khan from Afghanistan as the icon player. On the other hand, Duminy and Tahir will join the likes of Babar Azam from Pakistan and Luke Ronchi from New Zealand, and Chris Lynn from Australia as marquee players. The organisers will name the other two marquee and icon players in the days to follow.
Shahid Afridi seemed excited, taking up a new challenge. The veteran cricketer has a fair bit of experience playing domestic cricket in England and will look to bring all those and entertain the fans in those parts of the globe.
“I have enjoyed my early days in cricket playing in Leicestershire, Derbyshire and Kent. I am expecting similar kind of surfaces and weather in Ireland, Scotland and Netherlands. It is the part of the world where we won our only World T20 title. I am really excited to go out there and entertain the fans,” Afridi said.
The all-rounder who last featured in the Pakistan Super League will bring a lot of experience to whichever side he is playing. The six franchises are Amsterdam Kings & Rotterdam Rhinos from Netherlands, Glasgow Giants & Edinburgh Rocks from Scotland and Dublin Chiefs & Belfast Titans from Ireland.
