Shakib Al Hasan Likely to Miss the Asia Cup

Bangladesh Test and T20I captain Shakib Al Hasan is likely to miss the upcoming Asia Cup. The talisman all-rounder is contemplating skipping the competition in order to get his injured finger operated.

Bangladesh’s linchpin had suffered a blow to his finger in the tri-series final against Sri Lanka in January. Therefore, the southpaw all-rounder had to miss the final. Furthermore, Bangladesh’s player went on to miss the two T20Is. However, he joined Bangladesh squad in the mid-stage of the Nidahas Trophy.

This would be a huge blow to Bangladesh.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh Cricket Board will ask Shakib Al Hasan when he wants to get his finger operated. Consequently, if Hasan decides to go under the knife, he is likely to miss the upcoming tournament.

The talisman all-rounder has confirmed that he wants to get his finger operated as soon as possible. In fact, Hasan said that he wants to do his surgery before the Asia Cup.

“I have to do a surgery. So the discussion now is about when to do it. I want it to happen as soon as possible. It will most probably be before the Asia Cup,” Shakib told reporters at Hazrat International Airport.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh was able to make a strong comeback after losing the Test series against the Windies. The Tigers won the ODI series as well as the T20I series by a margin of 2-1. Shakib Al Hasan expressed his delight over the team’s good performance.

“It was quite a satisfying performance,” he said. “We won trophies in two out of the three series. We don’t usually play this well abroad. Naturally, the confidence is high in the squad. We can (now) start thinking of something new (to achieve).”

Shakib Al Hasan was the Player of the series in T20Is. Therefore, the all-rounder was satisfied with his individual performance. However, he believes that he could have contributed more to the side.

“I am happy with how I did but maybe I could have contributed more,” said Shakib.

Asia Cup will begin on 15 September.
