MS Dhoni, the former skipper of the Indian team, has been away from cricket news ever since the conclusion of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. However, the coach of the team India has opened up regarding Dhoni’s retirement from cricket.
Every now and then a new update comes forward in reference to Dhoni’s cricketing future. Meanwhile, the wicketkeeper-batsman remains unavailable at any of the cricketing events. Ever since the international premier event concluded in England, Dhoni has excused himself from every cricket event.
However, the star Indian cricketer was spotted attending various other sports events. First Mahi went to work with the Indian Army in August, directly after India walked back from the World Cup 2019. Later, he participated in an amateur golf tournament in the USA. He also took part in a charity football match.
Ravi Shastri comes up with the update on Dhoni’s retirement
Nevertheless, the team India coach Ravi Shastri cleared up things for the fans awaiting the return of the veteran cricketer.
He stated that Mahi’s future will depend on the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2020). With the team management trying other cricketers, especially Rishabh Pant, there were questions starting to uprise on Dhoni’s return in the national side.
He recently started to train in Ranchi with Uttarakhand’s U-23 team. However, there is no hope of seeing him on the international ground anytime soon.
In reference to this, Shastri came forth and requested his fans to wait for the IPL 2020. According to him, the 13th season of IPL will play an important role before the T20 premier tournament.
“It all depends on when he starts playing and how he is playing during the IPL. What are the other people doing with the wicket-keeping gloves or what is the form of those players as opposed to Dhoni’s form. The IPL becomes a massive tournament because that could be the last tournament after which more or less your 15 is decided,” Shastri told IANS in an interview.
On the other hand, the India national cricket team are at present auditioning for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2020. The premier event will be hosted by Australia.
India have previously won the first title trophy of the event. Now, the Men in Blue will be looking forth to grab their second, especially after losing the ODI tournament.
Coach Shastri stated that they will keep trying out different combinations till IPL 2020. After the 13th season of the premier league, more or less 15 players will be decided.
“There might be one player who might be there and thereabouts in case of an injury or whatever. But your team I would say would be known after the IPL. What I would say is rather than speculating of who is where, wait for the IPL to get over and then you are in a position to take a call on who are the best 17 in the country,” he concluded.
