In Rich Form
Dhawan reached the 28th position in the latest ICC Test rankings, his career-high ranking after India whitewashed Sri Lanka in a three-match series. The left-hander moved up 10 places to 28th position after his impressive run in Sri Lanka.
He scored two centuries in three Tests, including a 119 in the final Test in Pallekele, and finished the series as it’s highest run-getter (358 runs). He also pocketed the Man of the Series award.
Dhawan walked in the team as a replacement for Murali Vijay in India’s 16-man squad. Dhawan, with his performance, will now press for a permanent spot in Test XI.
But, before that, he will play a key role in the five-match One Day International (ODI) series to be played from August 20 at Dambulla. India will begin as the favourites to win the series comprehensively against Sri Lanka. The hosts are currently struggling to get their team combination right after injuries and fitness worries.
Their lowest point came after they lost 2-3 against Zimbabwe, which led to Angelo Mathews’ resignation as captain. India last played an ODI series against West Indies which they won 3-1.
