Shoaib Akhtar, former Pakistan pacer has urged Babar Azam to resign from captaincy amid reports that the Pakistan skipper is unhappy with the recent squad selection for the South Africa and Zimbabwe tours.
Amid rumors of a rift between Pakistan skipper Babar Azam and chief selector Mohammad Wasim, former Pakistan pacer Shoaib Akhtar had urged Babar Azam to send a message to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) by resigning from captaincy. Several reports in Pakistani media have claimed Babar Azam isn’t happy with the squad selection for the upcoming tour of South Africa and Zimbabwe.
Shoaib Akhtar: If Babar Azam Is So Hurt He Should Resign Immediately
As per a report in Dawn, Babar Azamwasn’t happy with the PCB selection committee dropping all-rounder Imad Wasim from the squad and is likely to air his grievances in front of the PCB top-brass. Babar Azam reportedly expressed his disappointment over the squad selection in his close circle and alleged his suggestions were ignored.
“We are hearing that Babar Azam is calling [Pakistan Cricket Board] and saying that his suggestions have been ignored regarding squad selection. If Babar Azam is so hurt and wants to become a brand, then he should resign right now and send a message that this can’t happen again. If he doesn’t do this, then he will become Sarfaraz part two,” Akhtar said on PTV Sports.
Reacting to the rumors, Shoaib Akhtar has asked Babar Azam to take a stand against the board and send a message by resigning that this cannot happen again. Shoaib Akhtar also compared the situation to that of former Pakistan captain Sarfaraz Ahmed and said Babar Azam should avoid becoming ‘Sarfaraz Part two’.
Shoaib Akhtar’s Comments Echoed By Inzamam ul Haq
Not just Shoaib Akhtar but former Pakistan cricket team captain Inzamam-ul-Haq also spoke about the ongoing controversy in a video on his YouTube channel where he slammed the PCB for its mismanagement and questioned how can a chief selector not consider the captain’s request while picking the squad.
“The important thing is that team is selected with consultation and I have already said many times that the most important person is the captain. Chief selector and coach are not the most important people because they can’t go inside the ground and the captain who has to make the team fight inside he should have the confidence,” said Inzamam.
Inzamam ul Haq is not happy with how things have panned out after the announcement of the Pakistan squad for the upcoming tour of South Africa and Zimbabwe by Chief Selector Mohammad Wasim.
