Shoulder Surgery Puts Chris Lynn In Doubt For Big Bash League

Australia’s Chris Lynn’s participation in the next edition of the Big Bash League is looking doubtful, as the hard-hitting batsman is facing a lengthy recovery period after undergoing a surgery for a shoulder injury.

The 27-year old, whose career has been marred with injuries so far, had injured his left shoulder for the third time in less than two years in the Indian Premier League earlier this year.

Prior to the injury in the IPL, which forced him to miss the major part of the tournament, the Queenslander had missed the first half of the 2016-17 season after dislocating the same shoulder in Sri Lanka last year and had to spend a major part of the last edition of the Big Bash League on the sidelines due to a neck problem. He had also undergone a surgery on the same shoulder in 2014.

Brisbane Heat, on Wednesday (July 26), confirmed that the right-handed batsman could face up to seven months on the sidelines which effectively rules him out of the Big Bash League.

“We’ll obviously do what is necessary to assist him in his recovery and keep him involved as we get closer to this season’s BBL,” said Brisbane Heat General Manager Andrew McShea.

“The time frames with this sort of injury aren’t always hard and fast and so we’ll avoid putting any unnecessary pressure or expectations on Chris as he recovers,” he added.

Earlier this week, Lynn had said he was optimistic about returning in time to play in the Big Bash after seeing fellow Queenslander and rugby league star Johnathan Thurston recovering from a shoulder surgery.

“Having seen someone like Johnathan Thurston go through something similar during the State of Origin series, I am confident that I’ve made the right call to have this fixed now,” he had told The Courier Mail

“I had been able to get through my shoulder problems with careful management before now, but long-term this is the best thing. There’s never an ideal time to be injured but I can re-set my goals now and focus on getting strong and healthy, and then getting back to doing what I love which is playing the game,” he had added.

Lynn, who was in Australia’s squad for the Champions Trophy, is been one of the most sought after batsmen in T20 right now. After making waves in the Big Bash, he took the IPL by storm this year where he scored 295 runs in just seven matches at a stunning strike-rate of over 180.
