Shreyas Iyer Batting At Number 4 Will Help Rishabh Pant In Due Course – Zaheer Khan

Frequent chopping and changing in the middle-order has left the Indian team with no fixed batsman at No. 4 position. The latest player, who took the role was Rishabh Pant. However, the former cricketer Zaheer Khan asks the team management to look at Shreyas Iyer at number 4 and bring down Rishabh Pant in the batting order.
Coming into the team after a year, Iyer, who has a couple of the fifties in the five ODIs that he has played, hit a 68-ball 71. It played a crucial role in India’s 59-run win over the West Indies in the second ODI at Port-of-Spain on Sunday.

On the other hand, Pant, who continued to bat at No. 4, managed only 20 before playing a horror shot to throw his wicket away. Iyer kept the scorers busy right from the word go and scored 71 at more than a run-a-ball. His well-paced knock had 5 boundaries and a six.
Shreyas Iyer would naturally get a promotion – Zaheer Khan
Zaheer Khan reckons that sending in Shreyas Iyer at number four to build the innings up will help pave the way for Rishabh Pant to bat in his typical aggressive manner when he comes in. He further said Iyer’s performance will help him to be promoted to No.4 as per the team’s tendency over the years.
“Virat at the toss had already said that there is some flexibility regarding the number four spot. And it has been a trend of the past couple of years, if someone has played good innings at a different number, he has been promoted,” the former fast bowler said.
”So, Shreyas Iyer, I think will naturally get that promotion to the number four position which will work better for Rishabh Pant in due course,” Zaheer said while speaking to Cricbuzz.
Pant’s performances have so far been underwhelming and his future as India’s new number four looks a bit bleak. The 21-year-old is known for hitting the ball hard and going after the bowlers, something which he has been restricted from doing in his new spot.
So possibly, it would be Shreyas Iyer, who might take the position for the Indian team. This would be a glorious chance for him to make things fall in place as well.
