Shubman Gill scored 130 in the third ODI against Zimbabwe, showing amazing grit and determination. However, Axar Patel has revealed that the 22-year-old isn’t as serious off the field as he is when batting on the field.
Shubman Gill is the name on the fans’ lips after his stunning 130-run knock lifted India to a victory over Zimbabwe in the third ODI on Monday. He showed brilliant temperament to extend his stay on the crease, asserting how serious he was to do well this time. However, his teammate Axar Patel has revealed that the top-order batter isn’t as serious otherwise.
Shubman Gill Is Not So Serious But Gets Serious While Batting: Axar Patel
The Indian cricketing fraternity went gaga witnessing Shubman Gill’s heroics in the series. From pacing his innings according to the situation to executing some stunning strokes, the opener’s knock had everything one wanted to see from a batter.
At the post-match press conference, it was all-rounder Axar Patel who spoke to the media. When asked if the youngster is as serious off the field as he looked on the field against Zimbabwe, Axar Patel gave an epic reply.
“He is not so serious. He gets serious while batting. He (Gill) jokes around with everyone. But mostly he enjoys with Ishan (Kishan), me, and Avesh (Khan),” said Axar Patel.
Shubman Gill was adjudged as the Player of the Series in both the West Indies as well as the recently concluded Zimbabwe series. He amassed 245 runs in three games at an average of 122.50 in the Zimbabwe ODIs and 205 runs in 3 ODIs averaging 102.5 in the West Indies ODIs, topping the run chart on both occasions.
Shubman Gill’s Positive Is He Rotates Strike And Doesn’t Play A Lot Of Dot Balls: Axar Patel
“He is taking singles and twos more regularly and is not playing a lot of dot balls. I think that is his biggest positive. Whenever he bats, he makes it a point to keep rotating the strike. He also converts bad balls into boundaries. He also plays spinners very well and is very good with the sweep and reverse sweep,” Axar Patel said.
