It would be an unusual sight to see as pace bowler Varun Aaron leads India’s most celebrated captain MS Dhoni, who is all set to play for Jharkhand in the upcoming Vijay Hazare Trophy.

According to well-placed sources, the Amitabh Chaudhary headed Jharkhand State Cricket Association spoke with the ODI and T20 captain of India, offering him the captaincy for the 50-over format tournament.

The wicket-keeper batsman said that it isn’t a very familiar set of current Jharkhand players, their skills and strengths well enough and hence he would be inappropriate to lead the side. He further said that he had no qualms about playing under his Indian teammate Aaron.

India’s limited overs’ captain assured his availability in the team but has preferred to play as an ordinary player under the captaincy of Varun Aaron. His last appearance for Jharkhand, in any format, was in April 2007, after the early World Cup exit.

It has been almost a year since Dhoni retired from Test cricket, but the 34-year old is still the ODI and T20 captain for India. He’s been the most successful captain for India across all formats.
