Sri Lankan cricket authorities blamed the poor form of the top order batsmen and the lack of fitness for failing to progress beyond the quarterfinals of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 in Australia and New Zealand.
Chief Selector Sanath Jayasuriya said that officials will take hard decisions about the players who were below par and set up new standards to ensure the better fitness of the players.
Sri Lanka was kicked of the ICC World Cup after losing to South Africa by nine wickets in quarterfinals.
Jayasuriya also added that there five players Dinesh Chandimal, Dimuth Karunaratne, Dhammika Prasad, Jeevan Mendis and Rangana Herath were being replaced in the tournament because of the injuries .
Skipper Angelo Mathews said that he was disappointed by the performance of the top order batsmen in quarterfinal against South Africa.
Coach Marven Atapattu said that Sri Lanka were considered to be the favourites to win the ICC World Cup 2015 but he expected them to atleast reach the semi-finals. He added that the team didn’t performed par to his expectations, he thought that they could win quarterfinals and from their they could have a good chance.
Atapattu took over as team Coach in September after Paul Frabrace quit months before to take the positon of deputy coach of England.
