Sri Lanka V Zimbabwe, One Off Test: Zimbabwe Player Ratings

After a brilliant performance in the ODI series, Zimbabwe ran Sri Lanka close even in the one off Test before Sri Lanka eventually pulling off a hard fought victory by 4 wickets.

It was the innings of Niroshan Dickwella and Asela Gunaratne which tilted the scales in favour of the home team and eventually they won it quite comfortably in the end.

Zimbabwe fought really hard and matches Sri Lanka in all the departments of the game. Despite centuries from Craig Ervine and Sikandar Raza in the 1st and 2nd innings respectively, Zimbabwe couldn’t quite pull off a historic victory. Their best bowler was undoubtedly Graeme Cremer who bagged a total of 9 wickets in the match.

So now let us have a look at the Player Ratings for Zimbabwe

Hamilton Masakadza- 1.5/5

The hard-hitting opening batsman who is known to produce some exceptional innings battled hard during his brief stays in the crease. In both the innings, he was bamboozled by tweaker Rangana Herath as Zimbabwe failed to get off to a good start.

Regis Chakabva- 1/5

The wicket-keeper batsman had no clue against Rangana Herath and was left scratching his head as the left-arm spinner removed him in both the innings. He failed to read the flight and length of the ball which brought about his downfall in both the innings.

Tarisai Musakanda- 1/10

It was yet another forgetful outing for another top order Zimbabwean batsman who managed scores of 6 and a duck in the two essays he played. While he was dismissed by Lahiru Kumara in the 1st innings with a beautiful away swinging delivery, it was Rangana Herath who sent him back in the 2nd innings.

Craig Ervine- 4/5

The free flowing left handed batsman looked in ominous touch during the 1st essay and played some gorgeous shots en route to a brilliant 160. As wickets kept falling at the other end, Ervine steadied the ship first and then started taking the attack to the Sri Lankan bowlers. His well-crafted innings of 160 contained 13 fours and a solitary hit over the fence. He couldn’t quite get going in the 2nd essay and managed to score a mere 6 runs.

Sean Williams- 3/5

Williams was more potent with the ball than the bat in this match and returned with 4 wickets to his name. He made 22 each in both the innings and looked in good touch during his brief stay. The 4 wickets included the prized scalp of former captain Angelo Mathews and opener Dimuth Karunaratne.

Sikandar Raza- 4/5

After a well made 36 in the 1st innings Raza came back with an astonishing century in the 2nd essay which contained 9 fours and a six. He looked in great touch and the Sri Lankan bowlers were left clueless. He stitched together a crucial partnership with Malcolm Waller which helped Zimbabwe post a huge 2nd innings score.

Peter Moor- 2.5/5

The lower middle order batsman scored 19 in the 1st essay which included a gigantic six. He shared a 50 odd runs partnership with Ervine before getting dismissed. He chipped in with a composed 40 in the 2nd essay smashing 3 fours in the process.

Malcolm Waller- 3.5/5

Waller played well in both the innings and both his innings was pretty crucial as per the context of the game. He shared a sensational partnership in the 1st innings with Ervine which allowed Zimbabwe post a total in excess of 350 runs.

He scored 35 in the 2nd innings and stroked his way to 68 in the 2nd innings which helped the African minnows set the hosts a pretty stiff target. His 68 in the 2nd essay came off 98 balls which included 8 hits to the fence.

Graeme Cremer- 4.5/5

The Zimbabwean captain was arguably the best bowler on display in the match despite Herath’s brilliant spell. The leggie bowled in the perfect areas and kept on troubling the Sri Lankan batsmen. Though he conceded more than 100 in both the innings, the leggie bagged 5 and 6 wickets in two innings.

He was simply unplayable at times which turned sharply. Besides his 10 wicket match haul, Cremer also contributed with the bat and scored a free flowing 48 in the 2nd essay.

Donald Tiripano-1.5/5

The medium pacer had very little to offer to the Zimbabwean side as he bagged a solitary wicket in the match. Apart from Karunaratne’s wicket, Tiripano wasn’t at his best and didn’t even bowl in the 2nd essay.

Chris Mpofu- 1/10

The tall fast bowler went wicket less through out the match and could hardly trouble the Sri Lankan batsmen. He went for a few runs in the 2nd essay and looked totally off colour.
