Sri Lanka dominated in the third session of the second day over Pakistan, who were stationed at 224 runs for the loss of 6 wickets. Herath was the man of that session who took the maximum wicket in that session. The third day was challenging for the Pakistani players.
Herath and Perera was looking for an early wicket to demolish Pakistan quickly. Herath struck again. He created the angle across the left-hander by going around the wicket, and slanted that across fairly flat and full. Rehman followed it and played for turn. There was not any, and the edge settleed nicely in Mahela‘s hands at slip. Rehman scored only 16 runs. Pakistan were going through a tough situation. Riaz and Ahmed was in the crease then. They were rotating the strikes quite fast, but Herath, the the mesmerizer struck again and this time he got Riaz into his trap. Ahmed was looking very aggressive then. He played a magnificent innings and got his maiden ton. This hundred was first by a Pakistan wicketkeeper in five years. After the 88th over Pakistan were at 313 runs for the loss of 8 wickets. But Herath got this big fish into his net and end of a superb innings from Sarfraz. Saeed Ajmal and Junaid khan were there on the crease and they carried the run to 332 runs. Herath took the last wicket of the Pakistani team. Pakistan team ended their innings at 332 runs.
Upul Tharanga and Kaushal Silva walked out from the dressing room. From the Initial stage he was aggressive. After the 15th over Sri Lanka were at 45 runs for the loss of no wicket and Tharanga contributed 36 runs till then. Pakistan bowlers were failing, but they were working hard to break this partnership. At the 21st over they succeeded and Rehman got Tharanga’s wicket. Tharanga missed his half century as he scored 45 runs. Sangakkara came out from the dressing room to take Tharanga’s place. After the 10th over Sri Lanka were at 71 runs for the loss of 1 wicket. When Sangakkara was stabling down, Silva got out by Rehman. Tharanga boosted the run initially which helped a lot. Till the tea, Sri Lanka were at 86 runs for the loss of 2 wicket.
In the third session Sangakkara and the Jayawardane were looking for big partnership. They were both playing well. They were rotating the strikes pretty fast too. Jayawardane gave a good momentum on the board. At the end of 51st over Sri Lanka were at 143 runs for the loss of 2 wickets. They were heading towards big partnership. Jayawardane rolled the scoreboard quite well. But this credit not only goes to Jayawardane only, goes to Sangakkara too. Sri Lanka were cruised at very healthy position as they scored 177 runs for the loss of 2 wickets at stumps.
