India vs England 2016:- Is This Start Of Second Innings For Gautam Gambhir?

Gautam Gambhir made his ODI debut in 2003 versus Bangladesh and Test debut in 2004 versus Australia.

Ever since then he was a part of the Indian dressing room.

Even though in his early days he didn’t get many chances due to the
presence of star players like Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, and Sourav Ganguly.

In the beginning, after some poor performance in the Tests, he was
dropped but he came back soon.
Even in the ODIs, he wasn’t at his best, he kept getting chances but was not converting them.

Then, in ’07, after all, the star players backed out from playing the World T20, Gambhir was selected and asked to open the innings and that was the turning point for his career.

Gambhir performed well in the shortest format of the game, ending the
tournament as India’s top run scorer, with 227 at an average of 37.83,
including three half-centuries which included a crucial 75 runs off 54
balls against Pakistan in the final.

After a series of good performances, he cemented his place in the ODIs and Tests.
Having Scored a lot of runs in the tests, he was named ICC test player of the year 2009.

In the following years, he even captained India in 6 matches and won all of them.

His 97-run knock in the 2011 WC was one of the highlight of his career.

He continued to be a part of the team till 2014 after which he was dropped from the team following a series of poor performance.

After a big break from International cricket. Finally, on 8th October
2016 Gautam Gambhir was back in Test cricket against New Zealand not o
nly because of injuries ruling out current openers but also good
Domestic cricket form.
Now he has an opportunity to start his 2nd Innings and if he grabs the opportunity he can again become a regular in the squad.
Even if he’s 35, with that form, fitness, and experience he can play for few more years and retire when he desires.
