Stat Attack – Most Consecutive Innings Without A Duck In Tests

The term ‘duck’ is used when a batsman gets out even without opening his account. Getting out on a duck is probably the last thing that any player would want and the first duck in the career is even a hard pill to swallow. A newcomer would always want to avoid such an unwanted record but not everyone has succeeded to start their Test career on a good note. So far, there have been 60 instances when a batsman has got out on a duck in his very first innings but there are few batsmen who took years to register their first duck. And so, here we are present to you top five players who have played most number of innings before registering their first duck:
5. James Anderson – 54:
The Englishman is known more for his bowling prowess rather than batting but this is one record that would make him really proud. England’s most successful Test bowler registered his first duck in Test cricket in his 54th innings, six years after making his debut in 2003. So far, he has played 119 Tests and has got out on a duck on 20 occasions.

4. Ross Taylor – 58:
The New Zealand batting star registered his first duck in Test cricket four years after his debut in 2007. It came against Australia in 2011 at Brisbane. Overall, he has registered 12 ducks in the 77 matches that he has played so far.

3. Clive Lloyd – 58
The legendary cricketer registered his first duck eight years after playing his first Test in 1966. It came against England in 1974 at Port of Spain. He represented West Indies in 110 Tests and registered only four ducks in his illustrious career.

2. Aravinda de Silva – 75:
The legendary batsman registered his first duck in his 75th Test innings. It came after 10 years after his debut in 1984. The right-handed batsman played 93 Tests for the island nation and registered only seven ducks in his career.

1. AB de Villiers – 78:
Sitting at the top of the list is South Africa batting star AB de Villiers. The right-handed batsman registered his first duck in his 78th innings, which came four years after his debut in 2004. So far, he has registered seven ducks in the 106 Tests that he has played.
