Stats: List of top 5 batsmen Zaheer Khan dismissed the most number the times

Zaheer Khan has become the best Indian pacer bowler of this new millennium. Over the years, we have seen batsmen are getting famous for their contribution to the team, but bowlers get less credit for their contribution to the team.

But, Zaheer with cunning swing bowling and imagination power has earned a name among the Indian fans, who use to mesmerized by batsmen. People remember a bowler only for the match, as the match gets over, they take a dip in batsmen. The left arm medium fast pacer Zaheer Khan has dominated the Indian bowling side for the last 15 years and earned a respect across the  world.

He has all the traits that made Pakistani bowlers a phenomenon in 1990’ and 2000’s. Zaheer can swing the new ball and reverse the old ball. He does well on flat subcontinent pitches and he can control all the three balls well- Duke, SG and Kookaburra.

When, Zaheer Khan made his ODI debut in the 2000 ICC Champions Trophy in Kenya, Indian batsmen like Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and Rahul Dravid used to dominate Indian cricket. So, playing with the great cricketers and earning respect being an India bowler is not always an easy job.  Zaheer Khan is one those Indian medium fast bowlers who made a tremendous contribution to the Indian team throughout his career.

He was joint highest wicket taker in the 2011 World Cup and was one of the protagonists of India’s world cup victory after 28 years. There are many duels between bowlers and batsmen such as Sachin Tendulkar and Glenn McGrath in international cricket. Similarly, Zaheer Khan posed a threat to some of the best left handed batsmen in the business and accounted for their wickets many times.

However, Graeme Smith leads the list and the world class left-handed batsman failed to figure out a strategy to play Zaheer and looked tentative against the Indian left handed seam, bowler.

Here is the list of batsmen, Zaheer had dismissed the most number of times in all form of cricket of his international career.

Besides Smith, Kumar Sangakkara, Sanath Jayasuriya, Mathew Hayden and Mahela Jayawardene are the other batsmen who were the victims of Zaheer’s venomous swing the most of the times.

Former England captain Andrew Strauss is not in the list of the top five victims of Zaheer, but the classy batsman fell to Zaheer seven times in as many games. But, just one look at this table will tell you how effective he has been against Smith.

However, other batsmen faced him  in more games but fallen to him fewer times than Smith has. Frustrated Smith had thrown his equipment in the sky many times after being dismissed by Zaheer.

Here are the modes of Smith’s dismissal against Zaheer Khan.

Zaheer 37, unlikely to make a comeback in the Indian team, played his last Test in 2014 against New Zealand at Wellington and ODI in 2012 against Sri Lanka. However, it will be very hard to find a replacement of Zaheer’s caliber in the Indian team.
