Chennai pitch curator has come up with an innovative method to dry the pitch, post the Vardah cyclone that hit the city two days back. They put coal in a scuttle and then kept it on the pitch so as to dry it up quicker. Chennai received a heavy rain due to the cyclone. Now, the conditions are much better but the weather is more cloudy.

Due to lack of sunlight in the city, the curator was forced to do this as this is probably the best method to dry the pitch as now it is not possible to plough the pitch and then let moisture evaporate. This is the best and fitting method which an be used to dry up the pitch before the start of the fifth and final Test match at Chennai.
Earlier, there were chances that the Chennai Test might be cancelled as this Test faced two tragedies, first the sudden demise of the Chief minister J Jayalalitha and then the cyclone Vardah. The cyclone caused a loss of 1 billion to the city and also had an impact on the stadium but the outfield and pitch were not affected by it.
India has already won the series as they are three up with just a Test match to go. The pitch is expected to be on slow side with spinner reaping most of the advantage throughout the game.
