Former Indian opener and a legend in his rights Sunil Gavaskar might be in trouble due to the conflict of interest rule by the BCCI which has put the former Indian captain in a dilemma. According to rules, Gavaskar has been asked to either continue with his commentary role or with his stakes in his company-The Professional Management Group.
As per reports in the Times of India, Gavaskar doesn’t want to give up his commentary role and is even willing to sell off his stakes in the company to his close and immediate family members.
But the BCCI has told the former captain that selling the stakes to his immediate family members won’t be any good, and it won’t end the conflict of interest between his two different roles.
Gavaskar has been asked to sell off his company to an outsider if he wants to continue his commentary role with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
“The board made it clear to Gavaskar that he can’t sell his stake in PMG to his family members. He has agreed to sell his stake to an outsider as he wants to continue with his role of a commentator, and also wants to set the right example,” a source close to BCCI was quoted as saying by the Times of India.
If Gavaskar doesn’t sell off his company, then he might not be able to retain his commentary role with the BCCI. As per reports in the TOI, they tried reaching the great man, but he was unavailable for a response. Close sources said that Gavaskar won’t sell the company immediately but will discuss this matter with the top management of the board in the coming days.
Gavaskar is regarded as one of the greatest ever batsmen t have graced the game. He was the first batsman in the history of the match to reach 10,000 runs in Test cricket. The “Little Master” loved playing against the fiery West Indies side and dominated them on most occasions. He is also a famous face in the commentary circuit.
