Sunil Narine, Kieron Pollard Recalled For India T20Is; Carlos Brathwaite Named Captain Again

West Indies have recalled T20 specialists Kieron Pollard and Sunil Narine for the USA leg of the T20I series against India. Narine’s last appearance for West Indies came in a T20I against England in 2017. He has since been out of international cricket since then and returns to the national side after almost two years.

On the other hand, Pollard came close to national selection when he was included in the standby list for World Cup 2019. He played his last game for West Indies against India in last year’s away T20I series.

Apart from them, Andre Russell has also been named in the squad. He was a part of World Cup squad but returned home mid-way with a knee injury. He seems to be fit and might also play the ODI series as well.

Carlos Brathwaite has again been named as the captain of West Indies T20I side. West Indies’ selectors had named Jason Holder as the captain of T20I against England. It was after a period of two years that Holder played a T20I match and unsurprisingly, he hasn’t been named for the first two T20Is.

All-rounder Kharry Pierre earned his maiden national call-up. He was one of the reserved players for World Cup 2019. The 27-year-old recently played four List A matches against India A but came back with nominal returns.

There was no Chris Gayle in the T20I squad. The dashing opening batsman had already revealed his plans during the World Cup. As per him, he will retire after playing ODI series and Test series against India. Gayle hadn’t shown interest in playing T20I cricket.

Jon Campbell is also back in the national side after missing out on making it to the World Cup squad. Youngsters Shimron Hetmyer and Nicholas Pooran will oversee the batting in the middle-order.

The firt two T20Is of the series between India and West Indies will be played on August 3 and 4 in Florida. The third and final T20I will be played in Guyana on August 6. A three-match ODI series will follow before both the teams will face each other in two-match Test series starting August 22.

Squad: Carlos Brathwaite (Captain), Jon Campbell, Evin Lewis, Shimron Hetmyer, Nicholas Pooran, Kieron Pollard, Rovman Powell, Keemo Paul, Sunil Narine, Sheldon Cottrell, Oshane Thomas, Anthony Bramble, Andre Russell, Kharry Pierre.
