The apex court in India, Supreme Court will hear Sreesanth’s plea against the life ban imposed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). In fact, the Supreme Court has decided to hear Sreesanth’s plea after two months of the appeal.
Sreesanth had appealed against the Kerala High Court verdict for restoring the life ban imposed by the Indian board. It is well known Sreesanth was found guilty in the spot-fixing case of the 2013 IPL.
A ray of hope for Sreesanth.
“Let the appeal be listed for final hearing after eight weeks,” a bench of Chief Justice Dipak Misra and Justices A M Khanwilkar and D Y Chandrachud said.
In fact, Sreesanth had told the court that a life ban was a harsh penalty on him. However, he claimed that he isn’t playing for the last five years which is already enough.
On the other hand, the Board of Control for Cricket in India said Sreesanth’s case was open and shut. The Indian board said that the Kerala pacer took money for bowling no-balls in 2013 IPL.
Meanwhile, on February 1, the court decided to hear the plea of Sreesanth. However, the division bench of the Kerala High Court had uplifted the ban on the cricketer imposed by the Indian board.
The bench confirmed there was no violation of natural justice against the fast bowler. On the other hand, the BCCI said in its appeal that the decision to ban Sreesanth was taken on the account of the evidence against him.
Thus, the Indian board didn’t agree to change its disciplinary action even after the verdict.
